Something a little bit different this week with a look at YouTube insights. If you run a YouTube channel for your business you will be interested to learn about YouTube’s new Search Insights tool which rolled out to all creators earlier this year.
In a video on their Creator Insider channel, YouTube said the tool was designed to significantly improve content planning and to help creators to make more relevant content by providing data showing what people are searching for within the app.
With this new insights tool you will be able to research search terms and see data both for searches across YouTube and for your own viewers.
How to Access YouTube Search Insights
To access Research Insights (also known as the Research tab), you need access to YouTube Studio on a desktop.
Log into your account, go to ‘YouTube Studio’ and then to ‘Analytics’ via the left navigation. From there, click on the ‘Research’ tab.
Note; Data will as of writing this only be available for English language search terms and only for the following regions: US, UK, Canada, Australia and India. However, YouTube says it is working on rolling out to more languages and regions soon.
Features
When you enter a search term or topic you can filter searches ‘across YouTube’ or your ‘viewer’s searches’. The results will be a list of relevant terms that are categorised into High, Medium or Low depending on the search volume in the area you have selected.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. If you change ‘all searches’ to ‘content gaps only’ on the drop down tab you will be shown a list of results where users have not found quality content for that topic or search term or the content is outdated. This gives creators a direct opportunity to fill in those gaps by providing up-to-date content based on those topics.
And finally…
By searching for content gaps within your viewer’s searches you can quickly identify specific areas where you can create engaging content that your audience wants to see. We think this opportunity is hugely beneficial for businesses that have a YouTube channel and we look forward to seeing the results this has on the content that is being created.
