Blog writing is not only beneficial for your SEO but is also great fun and often overlooked by many businesses.
Sometimes not knowing where to start and if people want to read your content can put this marketing task on the back burner.
In this post, we share our top blog writing tips to help you create content your audience will want to read.
Write for people, not search engines
Don’t let Panda, Penguin, Penguin ( Google algorithm’s) overshadow your content creation! Focus your blog writing on what your readers actually want to read. An SEO focus is important but creative, engaging, content is also vital in improving your positioning on Google and on other search engines and most importantly, people will actually want to read the content.
Avoid keyword stuffing
This is one of the important blog writing tips. Keywords are great and are an essential for getting your content seen. The issue is with keywords they are easy to over use them. Keyword stuffing is an incredibly common issue that we see on a regular basis and is easily done either by mistake or to deliberately cheat Google. Keyword stuffing creates poor readability and is penalised by Google.
Focus on topics that your target audience want.
Make sure that your content is focused on what your audience would like to read, keep it on brand and on topic with your services. For example, blog posts we have written are from conversations we have had people and they have asked us questions on certain subjects, we have created blog post from those subjects. This doesn’t mean you have to be repetitive, for example; if you are a chiropractor you don’t have to just talk about spinal adjustments, you could also branch out into all health-related topics like healthy eating, exercise and so forth.
Use images
People loves an images especially when it’s a cute cat or dog. We engage with images all day from books, on our phones, & magazines. A good image that compliments your content will reinforce your message and will also break up your content in your blog post. Suitable images can be photographs, hand crafted illustration or digital illustration. Good illustration can add more impact than a photo in some situations.
Give stuff away
People love free stuff, by this I mean top tips series; like our 10 reasons why we love WordPress, how-to posts, and anything that would add benefit to your readers. Your readers will be reading posts during their lunch break or a break in work, so the last thing that they will be wanting to read is a load of salesy jargon.
Keep it short
Working out the best length for your blog posts can be tricky. You generally need about 300 words minimum to get indexed by search engines, but otherwise the length of your post is up to what you think feels best.
Write catchy headlines
No matter how great your content is, it won’t matter unless you have an amazing headlines. Your users have a split second to decide if they should click your link over someone else’s and your headline will make them decide this. The headline is also essential in making it easy for people to share your post. Keep your headlines simple and snappy. Think in terms of how journalists create those memorable headlines in your favourite newspaper. Puns and play on words can be effective.
Be consistent
Keep consistent with your blog, write regularly about interesting topics or new changes within your company. The more you write the better you will get (even if you are already killing it), but always make sure that you have quality over quantity even if this means scrapping a few drafts or re brainstorming.
